Maharashtra Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Gulabrao Patil has stated that his department has not received expected central funds since September 2024, amid drought conditions across several parts of the state. Currently, around 700 water tankers are supplying drinking water in Ahilyanagar, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna and Nashik districts. Patil said several water supply projects are 80–90% complete and could be finished by December if funding becomes available, potentially reducing dependence on tankers. The state government has been financing emergency measures from its own resources, while authorities are conducting region-wise and constituency-wise reviews to prepare for the coming months. The situation highlights the importance of timely funding and completion of water infrastructure projects to strengthen drought preparedness and ensure reliable drinking water access.
