India and Netherlands Deepen Water Cooperation on Kalpasar Project

New Delhi: India and the Netherlands have strengthened bilateral cooperation in the water sector with the signing of two Tripartite MoUs to advance technical collaboration on Gujarat’s ambitious Kalpasar Project.

The agreements were signed on the sidelines of the 9th India International Water Week 2026, following a bilateral meeting chaired by Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil and Netherlands Vice Minister for Infrastructure and Water Management Jaap Slootmaker.

The Kalpasar Project envisages creating a freshwater reservoir using runoff from the Sabarmati, Mahi and Dhadhar rivers, supplemented by water transferred from the Narmada River.

The MoUs bring together the Central Water Commission, the Kalpasar Department of the Government of Gujarat, Deltares and TU Delft, strengthening cooperation in technical expertise, knowledge exchange and capacity building.

The partnership reflects growing India–Netherlands collaboration on integrated water management and the application of international knowledge and technology to major water infrastructure projects.
