Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to launch sewerage infrastructure projects in Delhi on October 22, 2026, from the Najafgarh area, according to Delhi Water Minister Parvesh Verma. The initiatives include decentralised sewage treatment plants (DSTPs) and new sewer lines aimed at preventing untreated wastewater from entering drains and ultimately polluting the Yamuna. The Delhi Jal Board plans to establish decentralised treatment facilities in areas where space constraints limit the construction of conventional sewage treatment plants, with 40 DSTPs proposed to address localised treatment gaps. The government expects the works to be completed over the next two to two-and-a-half years, with the objective of eliminating untreated wastewater discharge into the river through the drainage network. These projects form part of Delhi’s broader efforts to strengthen wastewater management, expand sewage treatment capacity and improve Yamuna water quality.
